Story
Thank you for visiting Steve's JustGiving page in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the British Heart Foundation.
You may have already seen the huge metal bull sculpture Steve has created, which is currently travelling across the country as part of “The Big Bull Run”. The sculpture was built by Steven Nesbitt of Winston, County Durham, using lengths of chain welded together to create a striking Charolais bull.
Steven, who runs Alwent Hall Farm and Holiday Lodges, began the project during a period of ill health after suffering heart problems. While taking a step back from day-to-day farming activities during his recovery, he started creating animal skeleton sculptures from chain metal to keep himself occupied.
As President of the British Charolais Cattle Society, Steven decided to create a bull sculpture — a project which quickly became a true labour of love.
The sculpture is now touring farms, agricultural events and shows across the country to raise awareness and funds for two charities very close to Steven’s heart: the British Heart Foundation and the MND Association.
Steven was particularly inspired to support the MND Association in honour of his friend Cath Muir, who lives with motor neurone disease and continues to campaign tirelessly for awareness and support.
The fundraising tour began at Darlington Farmers Auction Mart and will continue across the UK, including appearances at The Great British Farm Fest and Diddly Squat Farm during the Cereals Event in June. The tour will conclude at the Stirling Bull Sales in Scotland on 24 October, where the sculpture will be auctioned, with half of the proceeds donated to both charities.
Additional fundraising activities throughout the tour include competitions to guess the bull’s weight and the length of chain used to create it.
Steven is widely recognised as one of the North East’s leading stockmen and is also known for keeping rare Hungarian Racka sheep on his farm.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help make a real difference to people affected by motor neurone disease and heart conditions across the UK.
JustGiving will send your donation directly to the MND Association and the British Heart Foundation.
As part of the fundraising campaign, supporters can also take part in the “Guess the Weight of the Bull” competition for the chance to win a £200 cash prize. Entrants are invited to guess the weight of the sculpture, with a tie-break question used if needed. Suggested donations are welcome, with all proceeds supporting the British Heart Foundation and the MND Association. Enter here: https://form.jotform.com/261302028544044
