Raising money for Transaid

Transaid transforms lives through safe, available, and sustainable transport. As an international development organisation that shares transport expertise with partners and governments, Transaid empowers people to build the skills they need to transform their own lives.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Three hostelries, 70 miles and three great causes – that is the goal that I’ve set myself in The Three Pubs Challenge.

On a date yet to be decided – it will be Saturday 26 July at the earliest – I am to set out from home in Purley South London for the New Inn at Hadlow Down, the Queen’s Arms (aka Elsie’s, aka Annie’s) in Cowden Pound and then the Jolly Farmers in Purley, my local.

The causes I aim to help are:

TRANSAID

Transaid transforms lives through safe, available, and sustainable transport. Founded by Save the Children, The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), and its Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, Transaid has over 25 years of experience working with communities, partners, and governments to address transport challenges across sub-Saharan Africa.

Among other activities, it carries out truck and bus driver training and sets up community ambulance schemes.

My wife and I both work in the logistics industry and this is a cause that is very close to our hearts.

ROYAL MARSDEN CANCER CHARITY

Royal Marsden’s world-leading nurses, doctors and research teams provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world.

It supports life-saving research, including clinical trials and the development of new drugs that will transform lives in the UK and around the world.

Most of us have, directly or indirectly, had a brush with the Big C so this is another very worthwhile cause.

SECOND CHANCE ANIMAL RESCUE

And finally, as an animal-lover - I’m supporting the Second Chance Animal Rescue (SCAR) was founded in 2011 and is based in Crockenhill, Kent

It rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes ill-treated or abandoned animals, providing them with, where necessary, a forever home at its sanctuary if they cannot be rehomed. It could not do its work without the dedication of its volunteers and supporters.

(SCAR is not open to the public, but does hold regular open days so please follow it on social media for all the latest news - https://www.facebook.com/scarrehoming )

The ride will also be an opportunity to support local pubs which are still the lifeblood of our communities. However, it will not just be a pub-crawl on wheels; believe it or not, I have been out doing some proper training. Yes, that idiot huffing and puffing up Burcott Road (16% or 1 in 6) at 7.30am was probably me.

Obviously, it will be soft drinks only at the first two pubs but I plan to make up for that at the Jolly Farmers...
