Raising money for The Dyslexia Association, ME Association and Cancer Research UK

Story

Raising money for a handful of charities close to me.

After having to defer from last year‘s marathon due to injury I’m putting all my effort into this years race bu fundraising for multiple charities. The beauty of getting a ballot place allows me to have a few charities rather than one. I was debating on joining a charity team, but this allows me to do the best of both, by running for a few causes that have impacted my life.

Cancer Research

I'm sure we've all been affected one way or another by cancer – either directly or indirectly. I lost a good friend of mine, Craig Steadman, a few years ago to cancer and it shook me. He was always so positive, supportive and encouraging. I honour him in my brand, naming one of my perennial knitwear styles after him. Malloch's will match the donations given for Cancer Research. I want to continue supporting the research into cancer treatment and prevention.

ME Association

Two of my family members have been directly affected by ME and I've seen first hand how it can cause fatigue and exhaustion.

The ME Association campaigns to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. They provide essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. They also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.

Dyslexia Association

I am dyslexic and understand the struggles children go through at school and learning, as well as adults in work and general situations. I managed to improve my confidence through hard work and support from teachers and the Dyslexic Institute for Children. Unfortunately that don't exist anymore but the Dyslexia Association works in the same manner providing support and services for dyslexic children and adults of all ages, also for their parents/families, educators, employers and the wider community. Their aim is to improve the lives and expectations of dyslexic people, helping them to reach their full potential.
