Story
As a team, we are doing this on behalf of our amazing friend and colleague, Jasmine . Please read Jasmine’s story:
Following my recent diagnosis with stage 3 ovarian cancer, my work team have decided to come together to raise money for Ovarian Cancer Action. Throughout October- Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month- we’ll be walking 100 miles to raise vital funds and awareness.
Ovarian cancer can affect women of any age, but only 4.4% of cases occur in people my age, while 82% are diagnosed in women over 50.
Ovarian cancer can have vague symptoms that are easily overlooked, meaning it is often diagnosed at a late stage. This can have life-changing consequences, including infertility and surgical menopause. There is also a common misconception that ovarian cancer is detected through a cervical smear test but this is sadly not the case.
By donating to Ovarian Cancer Action, you can help support their work to improve early diagnosis and prevention, as well as develop innovative new treatments. They fund more ovarian cancer research than any other gynaecological cancer charity in the UK.
Please take a moment to educate yourself and know the signs:
• Persistent abdominal bloating or swelling • Pelvic or lower abdominal pain • Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly • A frequent or urgent need to urinate
I can’t go back and look for these symptoms in myself, but if sharing my experience means even one person recognises something and seeks help sooner, then something positive can come from an incredibly difficult situation.
If you’re able to donate, we’d be so grateful. And if you can’t, please share this post and help us spread awareness. 💙
On behalf of the whole team, any donations or joining us on our office walks are greatly appreciated and we thank you for showing solidarity.
We love you Jasmine and we are all behind you 💪🏼 ❤️
