Story
We sadly lost our dear friend Claire Turner to cancer back in March 2024, leaving behind a loving husband and two children, aged 10 and 13.
Claire was such a warm, kind hearted lady, full of ideas and solutions, who never stopped helping others, even when she was really poorly. It may sound like a cliche but she really was one of a kind, always putting others first before herself.
Claire was an integral committee member for Friends of Binfield School (FOBS), first as a secretary and then as a treasurer. It was here where we all discovered just how much of an amazing, hard working, woman she was. She was also meticulously organised... boy she loved her spreadsheets! Never to brag or take the limelight but we all knew behind the scenes how much of a difference she made in helping to raise funds for the school.
We were all committee members at the same time and one of our fondest memories is that she was always striving to achieve the best towards all the FOBS events and when they were done, she'd have a smile on her face, and more often than not, a cheeky glass of wine in her hand too! During Claire's tenure in the FOBS Committee, she helped to raise in excess of £200K.
We feel that we want to do something in return, in memory of our lovely Claire. One of her wishes was for people to donate to Thames Hospice, a charity that helped both her and her family when they needed all the help and support they could get through the most difficult of journeys.
Thames Hospice needs around £38K every day to enable them to fund their services for a whole year, which is a staggering amount.
We would like to raise as much money as we can, to show our appreciation for all the work that they do, especially in acknowledgement for the love, care and support they offered to the Turner family.
We have decided to take part in the Sunflower Walk on September 8th. We are going to aim to cover the half marathon distance, 13.1 miles.
We appreciate that times are hard for many but if every person we know donated, we would be able to raise heaps of money.
So please, in honour of a dear friend, and to give us the motivation to cross that finish line, give as much or as little as you can and help us support an amazing charity. Thank you in advance.
