The Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer (LGSOC) Initiative has partnered with the University of Edinburgh to help fund transformational research into low-grade serous ovarian cancer.

Story

As many of you know we lost our beautiful Sister/Auntie/friend Clare in March after a long fought battle with LGSOC. You also know what a selfless, generous, inspirational soul she was. While battling her own illness she fundraised for this charity with so much passion & raised £1000s of vital funds for these amazing people at Edinburgh University who are doing amazing work trying to find a cure & initiating ground breaking research & drug trials, to try & help other women from having to go through the same devastation of a LGSOC diagnosis as she did. Sadly inspite of battling like a warrior LGSOC took our angel but we vowed to continue her efforts & raise money in her memory so that hopefully one day no women are lost & no family has to go through the heartache we have.

Myself & my sisters, Emma & Jade alongside Clares' nieces & nephew, Rhianna, Leah & Harrison & close family friend Steph, have decided to come together and run ( yes you heard right lol) run the AJ Bell Great South 5K ! which ironically this year is being held in Southsea, which was Clare's favourite place & where her Ashes were set free in the Sea, so it couldn't be more fitting to take part ❤️

Those that know us know we aren't runners ! So this 5k is going to be a tough challenge physically aswell as an emotional one for all !

Would love the support from everyone whether it's a donation, no matter how big or small, sharing our fundraising page as much as possible or even just turning up to support on the day - let's do this for our Clare bear - our warrior our Angel ❤️ CLARE BEAR BRINDLEY 12/06/86 - 4/3/25

Low-grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC), which predominantly affects women in their 20s and 30s, is rare and was only recognised as a distinct type of ovarian cancer in the past 15 years. Much remains unknown about LGSOC, and treatments for other types of ovarian cancer are ineffective against it.

I’m fundraising to help support research led by Prof Charlie Gourley and Dr Robb Hollis at the Nicola Murray Centre for Ovarian Cancer Research, University of Edinburgh. Their work focuses on leading crucial research and clinical trials for LGSOC.

Together, we can advance research and drastically improve survival rates for women living with LGSOC. Thank you for supporting our fundraising.
