Raising money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably)
In memory of Jonny Moore

We’re Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and we’re a suicide prevention charity. We host a helpline for people affected by suicide, as well as vital online resources for anyone who needs them.

Story

It’s been just over 3 three years since we lost Jonny. I lost my older brother Jonny after suffering a deterioration in his mental health during the pandemic. Tragically he took his own life leaving his family and friends with a void that will never be filled. Jonny was always a kind, selfless person and gave so much to the world before he left, even in his last moments, donating his liver and kidneys to three lucky people, giving them a new lease of life. He had many interests including sports, music, the arts and loved people and animals. He created his own vegan cheese company and his cheeses were enjoyed up and down the country. He was adored by his partner Zareen, his cat Belle, friends and family and he is missed by everyone that knew him.

Jonny would have been 50 years old this year and in his honour, myself and a small group of determined friends are doing the National three peaks challenge, climbing the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland in less than 24 hours (including the drive between peaks). Some of my best memories with Jonny were at the tops of mountains so this challenge feels like the right one to do.

The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft) - twice the ascent of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, over a similar total walking distance. The total driving distance is 462 miles.

It’s a very tough challenge with a success rate of less than 40% and will require lots of training and preparation, so any donations to acknowledge our efforts will be greatly appreciated by us and the charity we have selected. The ripple effect of losing Jonny has been widespread and has affected so many people meaning if we can prevent even one person in crisis from taking their life, it will have a huge impact not only for that person but for everyone who cares for them.

Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), is a suicide prevention charity. It’s got loads of tools and resources to help people find the support they need, including a life-saving helpline for people who can’t see a way forward, have lost someone to suicide, or are worried about their friends or loved ones.

£12.20 is enough to fund one potentially life-saving call.

Over the years we’ve all done some amateur trekking but at most usually one mountain in a day, nothing like the three we’ve signed up for! This is a huge challenge for everyone of us. Please be generous and hopefully it can make a huge difference to those people in crisis.
