Story
As many of you know, I am committed to making a difference to those who have been victims of Domestic Abuse, and for those who loved them anyway, for those who blamed themselves, for those whose family and friends did not quite believe the truth, for those who did not receive the support they hoped for or deserved, for those who were left alone, for those who couldn't get a space at a refuge, for those who lost almost everything at the hands of our inequitable Police and justice system, for those who never lost their faith, for those who are still here to tell the tale, for those the survivors.
Domestic Abuse comes in many forms, and many survivors say that a punch or a kick was far less painful than the emotional and psychological trauma they endured !
Did you know that Domestic Abuse...
-Will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime?
-It leads to on average, two women being murdered each week and 30 men per year?
-It accounts for 16% of all violent crime? (Source: Crime in England and Wales 04/05 report), however it is still the violent crime least likely to be reported to the police (Hmmm, and I wonder why??)
-Has more repeat victims than any other crime (on average there will have been 35 assaults before a victim calls the police (& then they still fail victims)
-And is the single most quoted reason for becoming homeless (Shelter, 2002
With these statistics in mind, can you imagine what it is like as a result of lockdown? This very second? It's happening now.
In aid of this worthy cause, my friend and I are running 5km EVERYDAY for eight days, that's 25 miles(!) to raise money for Refuge, and for every £156 we raise, it will provide three nights of safety for someone who really needs it.
...And boy am I unfit at the moment, so please dig deep!
With love and God bless.
