Hi I’m Dave Hepworth

There are quite a few people in my family that have died from or been affected by Cancer. I’ve lost a Grandad to a brain tumour, a Great Uncle to oesophageal cancer, another Great Uncle to lung cancer, a Grandma to secondary bone cancer caused by primary breast cancer. My Uncle in Law has had a brain tumour and is recovering.

My Dad has has recovered from a chest sarcoma in his ribs and sternum, my Mum has been left with disabilities from a (benign) Pineal Gland brain tumour and i know other friends and more distant family that have also been affected by cancer.

On a more positive note, one of my Godson’s, Isaac decided after the death of his Nan from cancer, to study how to tackle cancer and after just completing his PHD now works for the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) where he is a postdoctoral research fellow. He is currently trying to combine radiotherapy with treatments that enhance our immune systems anti-tumour response to better treat head and neck cancer.

So i decided that i would do something to raise money both for ICR to directly help Isaac and also Cancer Research UK who you maybe more familiar with. Either charity are worthwhile causes. Options are at the bottom if you are Team CRUK or Team ICR.

For my part I’ve chosen to ride the Mad March hare which is at least 65miles (c100k) and 4500ft (1.3km) incline . Which should help me get fitter training and also raise money to help the fight against something we all will need to deal with at some point.
