Story

At Sue Ryder, we understand that facing the end of life or dealing with grief is a deeply personal journey. Each individual experiences these moments differently, and that’s why our support is tailored to meet the unique needs of everyone who reaches out to us.

As we prepare for the Sue Ryder Starlight Hike in Leeds on October 18, 2025, we are reminded of the importance of community and compassion. This event is not just a walk; it’s a celebration of life, love, and the strength we find in one another during our most challenging times.

Helen: “I am walking for my sister in law, Lucia, who was cared for by the angels at Sue Ryder. They provided such necessary support for both Lucia and our family, that any little thing I can do to help them, I will.”

Sharon: "Walking in memory of my Mum, Norma, who received fantastic care from her diagnosis right through to her final days at Wheatfields. The care she and the whole family received was amazing and a great comfort at an extremely difficult time."

Susan: "I believe this is a truly well organised event to raise awareness to a very good cause. For me personally I have lost two to cancer and have a few close friends stilling fighting this awful decease."

Jordan: "I am walking because loss and grief has deeply touched my life. This walk is my way of honouring loved ones and supporting others who are navigating the pain of grief, so no one has to face it alone."

David & Franco: "We lost Lucia in 2019, husband to David and mummy to Franco, and Wheatfields were simply amazing. They made a tough situation a lot easier and personable. Angels on Earth.

We invite you to join us in this meaningful endeavor. Your generous contributions will help us reach our target of £500, ensuring that no one has to face dying or grief alone. Together, let’s make a difference and provide vital support to those who need it most.
