At the start of the year, I was asked to be part of a team raising money for My Time Young Carers in Dorset – a brilliant local charity supporting young people who care for loved ones.

Not long after, I learned that my old school friend Johnny had been given a terminal diagnosis: Stage 4 Mucosal Melanoma – a rare cancer with no treatment options currently available.

Johnny’s son Leo, who has Down syndrome, has been receiving fantastic support from the Down Syndrome Training and Support Service – an organisation offering education, training and practical help to people with Down syndrome and their families.

I’m now fundraising with both these amazing causes in mind – supporting young carers, and families like Johnny’s navigating incredibly tough times.
