We had never heard of Multiple System Atrophy until it cruelly took our best friend from us.

Susie and I are raising money for the Multiple System Atrophy Trust in memory of Kaz Day, who died from MSA on 7th September 2024, aged just 55.

Kaz was the most active, fun and vivacious person you could ever meet. She loved life always dancing, always laughing, always full of energy.

As a dancer, Kaz was very in tune with her body, and in 2021 became aware of her legs not responding as fast as they should, subtle changes in her reflexes. The doctors couldn't find anything wrong, but Kaz' body was beginning to shut down. By early 2024 Kaz finally had a diagnosis, Multiple System Atrophy. A terminal disease that kills every system in the body. Kaz died 7 months later.

Kaz, Susie and I had been best friends since we were 11 years old, and we miss her more than words can say. Watching what this awful disease did to Kaz was devastating.

In Kaz’s memory, this July Susie and I are walking 84 miles along Hadrian’s Wall, from Carlisle to Wallsend, Tyneside. We plan to complete the walk in six days. We’ll be pushing ourselves physically and mentally but it’s nothing compared to what people living with MSA face every day.

We are doing this to honour Kaz, to support those currently living with MSA, and to help fund research so that one day there may be better treatments and ultimately, a cure.
