Story
Deeswimber is a swim challenge taking us through december, connecting us to our environment and each other while we do what we can to raise some funds for the irish cancer society. Many people in our extended swim family have been affected by cancer some have survived and some have not but the sea has been a place of healing for many, we have spent time in the sea figuring out how we feel in our head, having a cry and being thankful that this big body of seawater makes our tears seem small. We are a team made up from people mostly in Ireland but we have managed to reach all over the world this year, connected by the power of the sea combined with social media.
Having been closely affected by cancer this year we really do appreciate how helpful the services of the irish cancer society are wirh a new diagnosis and throughout the process of treatment.
Below is the message from the irish cancer society;
As more people turn to us for information, support and advice and as new needs emerge, we are responding by extending our Nurseline hours and extending the phone service to a general information & advice line to support those with non-medical issues.
We have introduced remote counselling sessions for cancer patients that are unable to access face-to-face services.
There is a 20% increase in demand for the Night Nursing service which is operating as normal for now.
Our dedicated volunteer driver service continues to take cancer patients to their chemotherapy treatments.
Unfortunately with Covid-19 having forced the cancellation of our major events and the closure of our charity shops, your support is needed now, more than ever. Your donation can make a real and lasting impact.
