Story
We’re Chris and Alex, we’re both running the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 14th April after what initially started off as an idea after a few beers last summer. Where one of us wanted to build on running the Leeds half marathon and the other was thinking is running another marathon a good idea? A few months later, we both decided to sign up for the Manchester Marathon and raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
The reason why we’re raising money for this charity is because of our Grandad Mick, who had a four and a half year battle with Dementia when he diagnosed with it in the Autumn of 2014. It will be more personal as two days after the marathon, on 16th April, it will be five years since he passed away.
It's scary to think that 1 in 3 people born today will get dementia. From our experiences of seeing Grandad with dementia, it's heart breaking to see someone so close to you become a shell of the person they used to be and at times don't remember who you are.
The money raised will go towards funding for research to understand the cause of the condition, improve diagnosis & care, ways to prevent dementia and treatments, fund support for dementia advisors or go towards community groups to provide companionship for those with dementia.
We welcome any donations as we aim to raise our target of £1000.
