Crossing Over Water is a challenge event for all abilities. The aim of this challenge is to find a method of crossing water (swimming, crossing bridges, etc.) to stand in solidarity with the difficult journeys made by refugees and asylum seekers.

Story

On Saturday 24th September the Freedom from Torture Edinburgh Local Supporters Group, and friends, will be walking the Water of Leith from Leith docks to Balerno, a distance of about 12.5 miles. Last year we made 24 canal Crossings Over Water. This year we’ll be Crossing Over Water on some of the many bridges over the river. We want to walk in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers who have had to make difficult and perilous journeys across water and to raise money for Freedom from Torture.

Please sponsor us if you can. If you would like to join in, for part or all of the walk, please email us at edinfft.treasurer@gmail.com and we will send you details of meeting points, times and route.

36 river crossings! We completed our 12.75 mile walk today, Saturday 24th, walking along the Water of Leith from the sea to Balerno and using 36 bridges over the river. We were lucky to have a beautiful sunny day with early autumn colour and enjoyed all the variety of the rural walk through the city.
