About the charities we've chosen.
‘Something To Look Forward To’ improves quality of life for cancer patients and their families by providing gifts, experiences, and essentials, helping to relieve the financial burden associated with cancer treatment and allowing those affected to focus on rest, recuperation, wellbeing, and positive memory building.
We focus on researching, identifying, and building long lasting relationships with individuals, and companies who donate gifts and experiences which we then match to those in need.
Cancer is a physical disease but, like any illness, it affects who you are and how you make sense of the world. A sense of well-being enables people affected by cancer during and after treatment to lead as normal and active life as possible and it is an integral part of the cancer pathway. It is also essential that well-being support is available to families and Carers as well.
The holistic approach offered by the ‘Something To Look Forward To’ service leads to more positive outcomes for people affected by cancer.
'Cogwheel Counselling' is a Cambridge-based registered charity that provides counselling services in Cambridgeshire to individuals of all ages: children, teenagers, young adults, adults and the elderly. The service includes supported affordable provision for those on lower and limited incomes.
Cogwheel also offers organisations who wish to support their staff struggling with emotional wellbeing issues the option of registering with our Employee Counselling Service (ECS) for their employees to receive a course of counselling sessions fully funded by their organisation.
Established in 1988 as The Cogwheel Trust, we’re one of the few counselling services in Cambridgeshire accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Counselling is best described as a meeting between two people, client and counsellor, that takes place each week so you can talk about whatever problem, difficulty or issue is adversely affecting your life.
We are here to support people who are struggling. We can help with worry, stress, burnout, depression, family or relationship problems and other mental health issues you are experiencing.
'Turtle Dove Cambridge' was created to fill a gap in youth support work.
With one very specific aim, Kate Nation founded Turtle Dove to improve the future of young women who are or are at risk of becoming unemployed through not having the confidence or experience to seek employment.
This mission was driven by Kate’s first-hand experience in the youth sector where she saw the effects of a system where there are twice as many young women not currently searching for jobs compared to their male peers.
She also wanted to create a safe, female-only space that offers these young women an opportunity to flourish away from the pressure of their male contemporaries, around whom research shows they often don’t perform to the best of their abilities.
Having grown organically over the past few years, Kate has ambitious plans to drive this project forward – reaching more young women than before, offering them the opportunity to strengthen their self-confidence and work towards building successful futures.
By providing them with opportunities in hospitality, working as part of a team and with a defined structure, these young women can gain invaluable life experience.
Our team of young women help assist in small-scale events, working on and off site to help ensure the event runs smoothly and seamlessly. We combine our service by working in partnership with various local caterers, restaurants, other social enterprises and community groups as well as supplying our very own vintage china hire.
