Event: Doddie Cup 555, from 9 February 2023 to 11 February 2023
The inaugural Doddie Cup ride returns for 2023, this time its 555 miles! More details to come.

Story

Doddie's story transcends the rugby world. He was an inspiration. The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation has ploughed £6.5m into MND research in the last five years.

Doddie Aid is a mass participation event founded by former Scotland captain and British & Irish Lion, Rob Wainwright. The event raised a staggering £1m in January 2021 and around 27,000 people took part.

Doddie Aid is a way for us all to help Doddie and the Foundation in their quest to find better treatments for MND.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is keen to support that quest and have gathered a team of (willing / nervous!) cyclists who are ready for the challenge. They will also have the help of a support team to see them through the miles and keep them going.

The team is made up of firefighters from various ranks and also includes volunteer on call firefighters from the East and West Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute area.

They are:

Riders: Joe McKay / Tom Davis / Brian Wardle / Alex Wainwright / Gregg Hastie / Roddie Shaw / William Wilson

Support Team: John Fraser / David Moore / Stuart Kennedy / Ross Watson / Derek Symon / Andrew McGregor

They will be setting of on Thursday 9th Feb 2023 to take part in the Doddie Cup 555 – Cardiff to Edinburgh Cycle Ride fundraising for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation tackling MND.

The team will set off from the Millenium Stadium Cardiff at 06.00am on Thursday 9th February 2023 and the route will take the cyclists through South and West Wales, Mid and North Wales, England and finally arriving at BT Murrayfield some 48 hours later on Saturday the 11th February prior to the Scotland v Wales 6 Nations match. The cycle will be a continuous ride throughout the 48 hours with the cyclists riding throughout the nights, grabbing some precious hours of rest in a fantastic campervan kindly donated to support the cause by Fire Fighter Ian MacLennan of Clydebank and the generous team from North Coast Campers (www.http://northcoastcampers.co.uk). I am sure this will provide much needed sanctuary during the challenge.

Thank you for your support.

A Special Thanks to the following sponsors:
