Story
This is the team page for the Central Scotland Audit team's West Highland Way fundraising challenge where we will be supporting Beatson Cancer Research and British Heart Foundation Scotland. We hope that you are able to join us on 15 August using one of your CSR days (60 folk signed up so far!) to walk from Milngavie to Drymen or Balmaha and/or in also supporting the fundraising efforts of the 16 strong team walking the entire 96 miles over 5 days.
The West Highland Way is a 96 mile route from Milngavie in Glasgow to Fort William on the west coast of Scotland.
We'd like to try and keep donations to the two charities as even as possible, so if possible please split your donation between the two, but of course you are free to donate to either or both - any donations gratefully received!
The team:

MICHAEL CALDWELL – To get peace and quiet, Michael’s wife purchased Michael a Munro book to spend his weekends hiking pathless boggy hills. This fuelled his dream of completing every Munro before he’s “old”… which, if his hairline is anything to go by, he doesn’t have long left!
ANDREW RAMSAY – The dad of the group. Using his many years of experience, grumpy Andrew will be leading the group using a map and compass having never heard of the invention of google maps. Next year, Andrew will be awarded his free pensioners bus pass, after which, he will never need to walk anywhere again!
JULIA MACLEAN – Whilst living in near Glasgow city centre Julia used to book Uber’s to work rather than walk. Thankfully Julia has started walking her parents Jack Russell in preparation, after hearing that Uber isn’t available past Milngavie.
RACHEL LOCKE – Rachel is hoping for a smooth stroll along the West Highland Way. This will be a change from her usual visits to the West Highlands where she spends time wake surfing on Loch Lomond.
HOLLY McARTHUR – Holly is looking forward to ditching the study books and picking up the walking boots. As a keen runner, she should be at the front of the group.
ALEX TOMKINS – A founding member of the West Highland Way EY Team, Alex has been extremely valuable in booking all accommodation. However, she only agreed to go because Michael told her there was a cringey 00s pop concert at Loch Lomond that weekend. Having recently completed half marathon, Alex is confident of her fitness levels. Her main concern is whether her stereotypical Scottish skin can handle five days of sunlight.
CAMERON MARKS – If you have ever seen Cammy in the office he will most likely not be smiling. Although Cammy always has a smile on his face walking Munros on the weekend, as he has managed to escape the tropical paradise of Hamilton. This is unless a passer-by points out is beetroot face (which he swears is wind burn and NOT Sunburn).
IONA WESTWOOD – Iona is a professional lacrosse athlete and therefore has no concerns with her fitness levels ahead of the West Highland Way. Not even a recent knee fracture is dampening her spirits as she vows to be first across the line every day.
MARC MCQUADE – At the weekends Marc often sings about how he Will Never Walk Alone, as he is joined by the rest of EY team, this is true. Marc’s looking forward to Walking on, through the wind, through the rain. With hope in his heart, he will reach fort William in no time.
ALEX DUDNEY – Alex recently moved to Glasgow, and worried he was having too much fun, decided a 100-mile slog in the rain was much needed. Don’t let him anywhere near the map unless you’ve got more CSR days to use up.
ANDREW HALL – Being from the Highlands, the walk should feel like home to Andrew, and who knows, he may even find a few of the million golf balls he’s shanked off the various golf courses around the country.
RACHAEL McKECHNIE– Rachael won the Edinburgh ACE teams step challenge in May for which her peers are sceptical about the validity of this result. The pressure is on for the West Highland Way, as if she’s not found flying up this route, it may result in a tough audit of those figures.
RUARIDH HENDERSON – The joker of the group and one of the first people to sign up to the walk. Ruaridh is looking to enter the Guinness World Records by being the only person to complete the walk completely kitted out in Urban Outfitters clothing.
TOM MARLOW – Tom Marlow, was very keen to get involved in this West Highland Way Walk for charity, saying he was definitely doing all 5 days. However, Tom has a few doubters regarding his fitness having spent a lot of time in Stockport dining out at the various fast-food chains. Time will tell whether this dad to be and serial cross dresser has what it takes for the full five days.
