Story

We will be holding a Velodrome cycle challenge event at the Lee Valley VeloPark on Wednesday 2nd March 2022. The goal is for our riders to collectively achieve 2200+ laps… which is 555km total distance within a 2 hour time frame!

Riders

We are welcoming riders of all abilities to participate, riders will be placed into three cycle groups – beginner, intermediate & advance. Here’s an interesting fact: Bradley Wiggins hour record set at the Velo Park venue was 54.525km which is 217 laps… for context this is an average of 16.6secs a lap.

The challenge and how it will work:

From 1pm there will be a pre-training session, all groups will do the training to get a better feel for the velodrome. Then from 2pm the challenge will begin! Riders (in their cycle groups) will be riding in 20 minute intervals and will try to achieve as many laps as they can within the set time.

The beginner group will do 1x 20 mins intervals

The intermediate group will do 2x 20 mins intervals

The advance group will do 3 x 20 min intervals

We will be riding in memory of Aimee Stoffel, our much loved colleague and friend who lost her own battle with brain cancer. We hope this challenge will be an enjoyable experience that will inspire and drive you to the end.
