Story
Team Fitzpatrick (Bridget, Conor, Owen and Dylan) is taking to the streets and parks of London to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon and raise money for Fight for Sight (specifically the Tommy Salisbury Choroideremia Fund).
Dylan, now 24, was diagnosed with Choroideremia when he was seven. This rare genetic eye condition causes progressive sight loss from childhood due to a gradual loss of cells in and around the retina. There is currently no cure, so a diagnosis of Choroideremia leads to blindness in adulthood.
Choroideremia is caused by faults in a single gene. We’re raising money to support ground-breaking gene therapy that could lead to treatment.
Initial research at Imperial College London led to gene therapy trials at the University of Oxford. These trials showed benefits in slowing down or stopping sight loss in patients.
The money you donate will help support further exciting work that we are hopeful will lead to a treatment that could stop Dylan, and others with choroideremia and other eye conditions, becoming blind.
Thank you so much for sponsoring us. It means a lot to all of us.
