We build electric eco-fences in Africa to protect Africa's threatened ecosystems

Story

In June 2024, team Foleys will be competing in the 35th edition of the Rhino Charge event, a unique and gruelling offroad motorsport competition which raises funds for the Rhino Ark, a charitable trust that supports the conservation of Kenya's mountain range ecosystem.

Competing teams are required to visit 13 check points scattered over approximately 100 km of rough terrain within a 10 hour period. Entrants are supplied with a map of the venue, coordinates of the check points, and their start position the night before the event. Each competitor must plot the check points on the map and decide their route. The winner is the team who visits the most check points in the shortest distance.

Rhino Ark Kenya Charitable Trust is an NGO which raises money for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems in Kenya, namely Aberdare National Park, Mt. Kenya and Mau Eburu. These provide an "ark" for wildlife such as rhino, leopard, elephant and mountain bongo, as well as protecting vital upland watertables of Kenya, the so-called Water Towers.

Although this is only a one day event, it takes months of planning, training and preparation. It is a test of team work, enthusiasm and sheer determination. The team members need the fitness and stamina to run up and down hills foraging for the best and ultimately the shortest route between check points.

Any donations made are would be hugely appreciated. All the money raised goes directly to Rhino Ark. For more information check out https://rhinocharge.co.ke/ and https://rhinoark.org/
