Story
On the 28th of August last year, Alina died of Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive, currently incurable form of brain cancer. She left behind two sons, a husband and countless loving family members and friends.
In order to remember such a beautiful, fierce, clever and funny woman - and in the hope of helping to find better treatments and eventually a cure for this most intractable of diseases - three knackered, middle-aged blokes have decided take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Brain Tumour research.
Chris Hunter was lucky enough to have been Alina's husband, Dave Turner and Dom Hughes were fantastic friends of hers until the very end. On the 18th of May, we'll be joining other fundraisers, most with similar stories, to walk 24 miles in 12 hours through the Yorkshire countryside. If that sounds a bit too easy, the route involves going up and down the county's three biggest mountains too. Oh and having just checked, it's actually 24.5 miles, that last 0.5 probably won't be much fun.
But we're not doing it for fun; one in three people know someone affected by a brain tumour and brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.
If that's something you'd like to help to change; if you knew Alina and would like to do something in her name; if you find the idea of Chris, Dom and Dave having a horrendously painful day funny and want to egg them on to deeper misery, then please do donate if you can, we'd be so grateful for any amount, however big or small.
Thank you very much - pictures of blisters will be available on demand after the event.
