Olly & Sophie - fundraising for SUDC UK

Raising money for SUDC UK
In memory of Felix

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2026 · 12 April 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

SUDC UK is thrilled to be an official partner for the LLHM once again. Your support will help us in our mission to raise awareness and fund research to help prevent Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC).

Story

In April 2026, Olly and I will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for SUDC UK, a charity very very close to our hearts. I know for many a half marathon may seem like a small challenge, but before attempting to train for this I could probably count the number of runs I've done since having our two boys on one hand and the last time Olly attempted a half marathon he fainted minutes from the finish line (bit of a touchy subject). So we'd love as much support as we can muster to help us both cross that finish line.

We'd like to raise at least £1,000 between the two of us, and any donations towards this target would be greatly appreciated. We hope to continue raising money for SUDC UK with varying challenges in the years to come and we look forward to tackling this as our first one #ForFelix

Why SUDC UK:

In February 2025 our gorgeous little 1 year old, Felix, passed away suddenly, unexpectedly and without explanation. SUDC (sudden unexpected death of a child) is not a cause, but rather a category of death that currently eludes scientific understanding.

SUDC UK are working tirelessly to fund crucial research into SUDC, to raise awareness and to support families affected by these tragic losses. It is essential that we understand more about SUDC if we have any hope of preventing future losses. Currently research in SUDC is massively underfunded and there is very little awareness amongst the public and professionals. I'm sure just like us, that many of you hadn't heard of it before.

You can find out more about the charity and the amazing work they are do and strive to do in the future on their website www.sudc.org.uk

We are not sure if we will ever have any answers for why Felix's story was so cruelly cut short and we will forever feel the enormity of our loss and forever ache to hold him again. With all the will in the world we cannot change what happened to our family, but we can do our bit (however small) in helping to prevent this from happening to anyone else, because every child deserves to live a full life. Whilst what happened to Felix is rare, it is less rare than you would think and sadly we are not alone on this journey. Devastatingly, we now know many parents who are part of the SUDC community. It is estimated that 40 childeren are affected every year in the UK, more globally.

About Felix:

Felix was our sunshine boy, despite being born in the depths of winter. He brought us endless joy. We had countless strangers approach us to wonder at his smile and charming demeanour, because he really did smile at anyone and everyone. He loved being around people, he loved being the centre of attention as the first grandchild and nephew on both sides of the family, and he loved to explore, be that scaling the stairs with Olly, or playing peekaboo with anyone who'd engage. There will never be enough words to describe the wonderful little person he was, but we feel confident that if you met him you'd understand exactly why we call him our sunshine boy.

We hope you will support us by donating, cheering us along on the day or simply taking a moment to remember our Felix.
