Event: Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run 2021, from 1 October 2021 to 3 October 2021
This campaign will lay the foundations for human trials of a pioneering therapy for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The fatal disease affects the brain and nerves and causes weakness over time. There is currently no cure for the condition.

Story

In October, my school friend Peter & I will attempt to complete the 27th biennial Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run in my forty year old TR7. The event starts on Friday evening at Kenbworth House (Stevenage) and heads north to John o’Groats for breakfast on Saturday morning before zigzagging south via Loch Ness & Mid Wales to Lands End for Breakfast on Sunday morning. After that its a gentle drive across Dartmoor and through the Home Counties to Knebworth & the finish. By the time we return to Knebworth we will have covered 2000 miles in 48 hours at an average speed of 40mph, which is challenging in any car.

There will be more than 100 classic Triumph cars taking part with the oldest built in 1936 & the youngest in 1981. Each car has minimum crew of two & we take turns driving and sleeping. There are regular mandatory stops every couple of hours to ensure that we are not racing and keeping within speed limits. However we will enjoy some wonderful roads with great camaraderie and always stop to assist others when the unexpected happens.

The event has raised an extraordinary amount for charity. In the last RBRR in 2018 with Chris Hamilton, who sadly is no longer with us, we raised £4,000 from the total raised of £99,500. It would be wonderful to raise a similar amount again for this year's charity - the Motor Neurone Disease Association – to help them with their work.

Typical horrible drizzle as we approach John o'Groats on early Saturday morning just before breakfast.

Near Dartmoor on Sunday after 36 hours on the road.
