Story
I just asked Griffin how he feels about me running my 25th marathon tomorrow. And no surprise if you know Griffin at all, he said, "Watching it is boring. Why do people want to run 20+ miles? It's like watching paint dry." It's hard to believe that I have logged in so many miles for so many years. Yes, running can be boring at times, especially during long training runs, but as I have described so many times over the years, running is kind of my superpower. It makes me feel successful when I cross that finish line, realizing that I can do hard things. Most days I run for me and my own mental health, but tomorrow as with so many previous marathons, I am running as a volunteer guide with Tony Grossi from Achilles International.
Please help me cheer on the runners who give it their all on marathon day, showing how if you put your mind to something, you really can accomplish it. I am also championing two causes, Achilles International and NAMI of NYC are the charities. Achilles helps people with different abilities rock the running world, by enabling athletes with disabilities to participate in mainstream running events. You can support Achilles by making a donation here, and cheer for Tony and the other Achilles members who deserve accolades for their persistence and being inspirational. NAMI-NYC, has made it their mission to keep New Yorkers' mental health in check – certainly not an easy mission these days! Here is the link to donate to NAMI, an organization dedicated to providing mental health support and resources to individuals and families in New York City.
Thank you for being a part of this exciting 26.2 miles adventure yet again with me! I hope it will be more exciting to watch than watching paint dry.
Don't forget to read my article about the last time I ran with Tony! I hope that we cross the finish line proudly together this time! Article Link: Running As A Marathon Guide For People With Disabilities Made Me A Better Human
