Story
We are taking part in a continuous 52 mile walk which starts at 10pm from Salisbury to Winchester Cathedral, and then back to Salisbury Cathedral during the following day.
This walk is certainly going to be physically, emotionally and mentally demanding; we are not sure if it will be the lack of sleep or the actual non stop 52 mile walk that will defeat us first! Either way, one (or a few) G&Ts will be needed once we cross the finish line!
We wanted to choose a charity that means a lot to a wide variety of people, which would have a positive impact both directly and indirectly. We know firsthand how much enjoyment and fulfilment animals bring to people's wellbeing and mental health.
A little bit about the charity..
Pets As Therapy (PAT) is a national charity founded in 1983. There are approximately 6000 active PAT visiting volunteer teams across the UK who would normally be visiting people in need of companion animal therapy. People who due to their circumstances cannot have access to a pet of their own.
Every week PAT visiting teams help thousands of people in hospitals, care homes, hospices, prisons and schools.
When volunteers visit hospitals, it is not only the patients that receive this stress relief and escapism, it's also the front line staff.
