Story
In November 2022 my life changed forever when my mum passed away after a short but cruel fight with advanced lung cancer. In keeping with mum’s selfless character one of the last things she said to me was that she wanted us to donate her funeral collection to Macmillan. After raising a fantastic £250 pounds I decided that I wanted to do/raise more for such a fantastic charity that are a source of support for cancer patients and their families during a time of great need.
We (myself and good friends Donna and Danielle) will be undertaking the Macmillan Mighty Marathon Hike (26 miles) in the Lake District in June to raise money for Macmillan and would really appreciate any support that you can offer,no matter how small! Most of us are impacted by cancer at some point in our lives and the cruel reality of losing those that we care about all too familiar!
Danielle lost her father Michael Weatherill in recent years and Donna too has lost loved ones so as a team we are looking forward to the challenge and making our angels in the sky proud.
My mother kept a garden
A garden of the heart
She planted all the good things
That gave my life its start
She turned me to the sunshine
And encouraged me to dream
Fostering and nurturing
The seeds of self-esteem
And when the winds and rain came
She protected me enough
But not too much because she knew
I’d need to stand up strong and tough
Her constant good example
Always taught me right from wrong
Markers for my pathway
That will last a lifetime long
I am my mother’s garden
I am her legacy
And I hope today she feels the love
Reflected back from me.
