Raising money for CI

We know that human beings are totally dependent on nature — and that by saving nature, we’re saving ourselves. To that end, CI is helping to build a healthier, more prosperous and more productive planet. We do this through science, policy, and partnerships with countries, communities and companies. Over the years, CI has helped support 1,200 protected areas and interventions across 77 countries, safeguarding more than 601 million hectares of land, marine and coastal areas. Our work is moving entire societies toward a healthier, more sustainable development path — so that we don’t use up today what we’re going to need tomorrow. At CI, we don’t focus on one sector or one issue. And we’re not interested in short-term fixes. Instead, building upon a foundation of science, partnership and field work, we find global solutions to global problems. We measure success in human terms. Our ultimate goal is to protect the most fundamental things that nature provides to all of us: our food, our fresh water, our livelihoods and a stable climate. Nature doesn’t need people - people need nature.

Story

In October 2026, Her Planet Earth will lead its 20th all-female expedition - a seven-day, 80-kilometre “Mountain to Sea” journey through Kyoto Prefecture’s remote interior, ending at Amanohashidate on the Sea of Japan. A team of 12 women will trek ancient trade routes, forested passes, and rural communities, with part of the team also travelling to Ise-Shima to meet Japan’s legendary Ama divers - female free divers whose 2,000-year-old tradition reflects a profound relationship with the sea, resilience, and intergenerational ecological knowledge.

We are fundraising through this expedition to support Conservation International Fiji and help raise US$50,000 for women-led seaweed initiatives in coastal communities. The funds will support women harvesting nama (sea grapes) using generations of local knowledge, while improving access to processing infrastructure, financial literacy, and markets. The goal is not only to strengthen livelihoods, but also to support biodiversity, climate adaptation, and regenerative local economies - shining a light on the fact that some of the most powerful climate solutions are already being led by women.
