Story
We are group of residents in Histon and Impington called H&I for Gaza and we would like to invite you to join us in our fundraising efforts for Medical Aid for Palestinians (UK registered charity number 1045315).
We'll be kicking things off with a sponsored night walk, Sunset Strides for Gaza. The walk will take place on Saturday 12th July at 8:30pm.
We will assemble at Long Meadow Barn at 8:15pm. Please bring appropriate clothing for the weather and bear in mind that it might get chilly after the sun sets at 9:17pm. We recommend you bring a torch too. Our sunset walk will take about one and a half hours and we aim to finish at the St Andrews Stable Rooms to share a drink together before bedtime. We will be walking at a slow and steady pace to allow everyone to keep up and hold a conversation while walking. Children are welcome to take part but please bear in mind the estimated finish time of 10pm. We will then offer refreshments at St Andrews Stables 10-10.30pm
It's easy to take part, you can either donate to our team page, or create your own sponsorship page by clicking on the ’join the team' tab (top right corner of this page) to either log in or sign up to JustGiving. Then 'create a new fundraising page' with 'doing your own activity. You can choose your own title and it will automatically link your fundraising page to the HI for Gaza Sunset Strides for Gaza Team page.
Suggested minimum target for sponsorship £30 per family or group or £15 per individual but you can set your target as high as you like!
Our initial aim was to raise £1500, we have increased this incrementally to £5000 due to the overwhelming support and involvement from others. We are aiming to raise as much as possible due to the dire need.
WHAT IS MAP DOING TO HELP PALESTINIANS IN GAZA AND THE WEST BANK?
Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) continues to deliver the largest humanitarian response in our history to meet critical health and humanitarian needs caused by 15 months of Israel’s military attacks and siege of Gaza.
In 2024 alone, MAP provided vital healthcare and humanitarian aid to nearly one million Palestinians across Gaza, working with 16 local partners.
While our emergency response is mainly focused on Gaza, we are also supporting medical services in the occupied West Bank, amid a significant escalation of Israeli military and settler violence against Palestinians.
DELIVERING EMERGENCY AID
* Since the temporary ceasefire was reached on 15 January 2025, we have delivered 32 truckloads of aid containing medical supplies, shelter materials, dignity kits, assistive devices, and food.
STRENGTHENING HEALTHCARE SERVICES
* Supporting major hospitals, including Nasser Medical Complex, Shifa Hospital, the European Gaza Hospital (specialising in cancer treatment), and others to restore lifesaving and specialised medical services.
* Renovating Shifa Hospital, converting its obstetrics and gynecology building into a 120-bed surgical department.
* Working with local and international partners, we are delivering primary healthcare services to over 50,000 people across 10 medical points.
* Expanding our Solidarity Polyclinic in central Gaza, which is currently treating 170 patients per day, and establishing new medical points in shelters.
* Deployed Emergency Medical Teams (EMTs) of international medical specialists to treat injuries and infections among Palestinians. Our EMTs have conducted 7,593 consultations and performed 1,587 life-saving surgeries.
ADDRESSING MALNUTRITION AND ENSURING CLEAN WATER
* Screened over 47,000 people for malnutrition, providing emergency nutrition support to children, pregnant women, and post-surgical patients, with referrals for treatment where needed.
* Delivering clean water to communities through water trucking and network rehabilitation, preventing the spread of waterborne diseases.
MENTAL HEALTH AND PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT
* Providing specialised mental health support for Palestinians returning to destroyed homes, focusing on survivors of violence, detainees, and displaced people.
* Expanding emergency mental health services at hospitals and medical centres, treating patients with symptoms of severe distress.
SUPPORTING WOMEN AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
* Ensuring women’s protection by relocating medical and safe spaces to areas where families are returning, offering services to mitigate gender-based violence.
* Establishing rehabilitation services in hospitals, providing assistive devices, and offering tailored psychosocial support for people with disabilities.
