Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In July 2022, I wasn't feeling well and a couple of blood tests that month revealed I was diabetic. I'd known a little about it as I have a few family members and friends that were diabetic and I also had gestational diabetes when pregnant with my son but it was not until I met with my diabetic nurse Jenny that I really understood the seriousness of the disease and all of the health issues it can cause. In that same month, my auntie went into a diabetic coma. She thankfully survived it and it was my kick start to getting healthy.

During that year, my sugar levels went up and down so in September 2023, I finally decided to really get moving and joined Slimming World who have partnered up with Diabetes UK. I have lost 4.5stone so far with a little more to go and I learnt how to run by completing Couch to 5k, completing my first ever race for life in July 2024.

To top it off, I'm off medication now, I have officially got my sugar levels down to 36 and am no longer diabetic/reversed diabetes/in remission (however you wish to put it).

Now is the time for my next challenge - the London2Brighton cycle ride. And I couldn't do this without my biggest supporter - my Dad (aka Harry Paffett). He’ll also walk my bike up the beacon if I cant get up that hill!
