In 2016, our mother was admitted to hospital for a routine operation, except within only a matter of hours, rapidly developed severe sepsis which triggered multiple organ failure. After 3 months in ICU in an induced coma, she remained in hospital for a further 10 months enduring many operations. She now continues to cope admirably with the discomfort and repercussions caused by sepsis.

Every 3 seconds someone in the world dies from sepsis. Each year in the UK alone, 245,000 people are affected by sepsis with at least 48,000 people losing their lives in sepsis-related illness’. For many patients, however, early identification is pivotal in fighting this life-threatening condition.

Edmund and I will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon on the 2nd April 2023 to support Sepsis Trust UK in their effort to end preventable deaths and improve outcomes for survivors from sepsis. Any donations towards Sepsis Trust UK and their worthy cause would be greatly appreciated by us.
