Story

The crazy Impact crew are taking on the Lake District 10 peak challenge in one day on the 3rd June 2021. Raising money for Treetops Hospice and the Patterdale Mountain rescue team.

Postponed from last year, we are now on track and in training to hopefully complete our challenge this year (restrictions allowing).

Our two charities are the Patterdale Mountain Rescue team, of which our guide for the walk Geoff, is a member.( so hopefully we won't get lost!). Also our local hospice Treetops.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue team are in their 57th year and are one of the busiest in the country. Their dedication and selfless bravery came to the fore this year on 6th February when one of their members, Chris Lewis, fell while on a rescue, suffering life changing spinal injuries. The team are on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. The Team carry out searches, often in extreme weather conditions, for lost walkers and on occasion, assist the police in searches for vulnerable missing persons. The team is trained in avalanche search techniques.Their two qualified search dogs are on call 24/7. They are also available to assist other Mountain Rescue teams out of their operational area.Members have mountaineering, technical rope skills, and local knowledge. Many have expertise in specialist mountain casualty care, emergency off and on-road driving and water rescue skills.The Team has around 30 active members as well as a number of probationers under training at any one time.

It costs £4.2m each year to run Treetops and they need your support now more than ever. Its a big number and they are grateful for any help.Facts and figures: They directly support over 3,000 people from our community as well as their families at the most difficult time of their lives. Their 47 devoted nurses deliver over 28,000 hours of one to one hospice care in peoples homes. Their 36 compassionate bereavement counsellors help by giving 5,500 counselling sessions - 1,013 of these for children and young people. Their 532 amazing volunteers keep Treetops running.They are leading experts in end-of-life care and bereavement support dedicate many hours to training NHS staff about death and dying.Things cost: £105 for a nurse to spend the night caring for a patient, £50 for a childs counselling session after they've lost a parent, £10 a childs bereavement box, £50 a counselling session.
