Help Transform Lives in Marimanti Village, Kenya

In September this year, Island Youth Projects (IYP) will travel to Marimanti Village, Kenya, to deliver a life‑changing refurbishment project for 68 orphaned children and their caregivers.

We are seeking to raise £8,500 to fund the materials we have already planned and ordered as our direct contribution to this project.

On 11 September, a committed, multinational team of 17 IYP volunteers will begin an intense, carefully planned week refurbishing a remote and badly dilapidated community centre and six adjacent learning/workshop spaces. These buildings are at the heart of daily life for children who have lost parents—many to the AIDS epidemic—and who rely on this centre for education, skills development, and hope.

What We Will Deliver

- The transformation of eight buildings into safe, fit‑for‑purpose social, learning, and skills spaces

- Refurbished facilities that support children to gain qualifications or practical skills so they can build an independent future

- A celebration day and party with the children and their carers at the end of the project week

Already, children supported through this programme have gone on to college and university—proof that the model works.

We are working in partnership with Karibuni Children, a UK‑registered charity that currently supports 700+ children across six projects in Kenya. Their experience and long‑term presence ensure that the facilities we refurbish will continue to make a difference long after we leave.

Karibuni Children is a UK Registered Charity which aims to raise awareness about the plight of children living off the streets and in the slums in areas of urban and rural poverty in Kenya; and to raise money to support projects to meet their needs. It currently supports well over 1,000 children through 13 projects. Sponsored children are supported throughout their education with the aim of ensuring that they acquire a qualification or a skill which will enable them to earn a living and escape from life in the slums.
