Raising money for Multiple Sclerosis Society and Motor Neurone Disease Association

Story

Hello!

It's been a while since we have done a run for a charity, so we thought that 2023 would be the year!

Some of you may know that a few of us did Doncaster 10k in November 2021 and raised a lovely amount for the MS Society, so thank you to anyone that donated.

Realising that this time we may need to up the ante a little, we have gone big! If anyone was wondering, this is all Mel's fault ;) It's not just one race, but a series of events we are tackling this year!

On 2nd April we were supposed to be taking on the Hornsea 1/3rd Marathon, just shy of 9 miles in one run - but with less than 3 weeks to go it was cancelled. This was due to be the single longest run Katie and Stu had done to date.

So after all the training we put in, what were we to do? Well, we did the distance ourselves! On 12th March 2023 we completed 8.75 miles!

It's a long way, but some of you are thinking 'it's just one run' right? Well... seeing as our first official run got cancelled - we managed to book another! 7 miles at Spurn Point in the Spurn Super 7 on 19th March 2023 will see Mel, Mark, Stu and Katie - Team MMaSK - take on the blustery and sandy track on the East Coast.

*UPDATE* The team have also signed up for ‘Double Trouble’ hosted in Withernsea on 2nd April! This is a true team effort as we go in pairs to cover 10k each, with the clock not being stopped until the second runner crosses the line. Mel and Katie are teaming up with Mark and Stu making up the second pair!

*EXTRA RUN ADDED* On Friday 5th May another 5 miles beckons at the Great Newsome 5 Mile Blast. The full team are taking this on, starting and ending at Great Newsome Brewery, with some country lane running in between!

The challenge will kicks up a gear in June when we take on Hull 10k and Leeds 10k on consecutive weekends! (11/6 and 18/6) The thought of that alone is somewhat worrying.

Not stopping there, the Withernsea 5 mile beckons on 2nd July with Mark, Katie, Mel and Stu taking on more seaside mileage!

The final challenge in the series will be Mel and Katie completing the Pretty Muddy 5k on 16th July.

Each member of the team has a cause linked to them for fundraising. Stu is running for the MS Society, with Mark, Katie and Mel running for the Motor Neuron Disease Association.

The MS Society will always be a cause close to home as Stu's Mum suffered from this terrible disease before she passed away back in 2009. Anything that can be done to help those currently suffering, and aid the fight to find a cure will always be important.

Not only that, but as the series of runs includes the Leeds 10k, we couldn't let that pass without a thought for Leeds Rugby League legend, Rob Burrow. As such, we also hope to raise some funds for the Motor Neuron Disease Association.

We realise times are tough for everyone, so anything that can be donated to either cause would be greatly appreciated by us all. If you don't want to pick between the two causes, you can simply donate a little to each cause via our linked pages. If you want to only pick one, that's also fine. If you can't donate, that's no worry either, we appreciate you reading this (and maybe a little share on the socials if you can!).

Thank you all for reading and we we all see you on the start line in March... and April... and June... and again in July! Fingers crossed we get to the end :)
