Story
On the 12th September 2025 I accompanied my sister Helen to an appointment at Swindon Hospital. It was her 57th Birthday. She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She was taken straight into hospital that day, and started on Chemo tablets, and so began lots of treatments, and lots of trips to Swindon. On the 4th of October just as she was nearing the end of the first round of chemo, and her hair was starting to fall out, I went to visit her to cheer her up, even as she sat there that day , she continued to say a sick person should have her room, and that she would not put her dressing gown on as it made her look ill and lazy.
Late in the afternoon, she started to suffer from really bad headaches, we went for a CT scan, and shortly after that she suffered from a catastrophic bleed to the brain, and passed away as dawn broke on the 5th October.
So from the 12th September 2026 to the 5th October 2026 I will run a half marathon each day, to raise money for Blood Cancer UK and Macmillan, and in Memory of my beautiful brave sister, and the dignified fight she had against Cancer.
Lung Cancer took our Dad when were ages 4 and 7 as well.
If I am still standing on the 18th October, I will also run the Great South Run, with some of Helen's Friends and family.
We're a community dedicated to beating blood cancer. We do this by funding research and supporting those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. Right now, our community is funding 360 researchers and staff across the UK who are searching for the next breakthrough. The day we will beat blood cancer is now in sight and the researchers are determined to finish the job.
