Story
Two friends, one cause ❤️
Jess’s story:
Jess sadly lost her grandmother and her granny to cancer and so has committed to running Manchester half in order to raise money for all those who are fighting cancer and in recognition of how strong they need to be in this fight.
Steph’s story :
Growing up I was always ‘daddy’s little princess’, if I’m totally honest- this was probably still the case into my 30’s! He taught me so many skills and he was always full of general knowledge that never failed to surprise me. The number of times I tried to beat his mental arithmetic using a calculator was hilarious- I never won.
The greatest things he ever taught me are resilience and determination (borderline stubbornness!). When he got his cancer diagnosis, he was determined that he wouldn’t let it win, by the time he was diagnosed it was already stage 4, but he didn’t let that stop him. He would repeatedly say, if I take to my bed and stop doing what I love- it may as well take me now, and I won’t do that. So he fought it, he took part in clinical trials that would prolong his life but also help others. I’m hoping continuing to raise money means there will be more trials, leading to better treatments and enabling more families to have more time together- or hopefully to find a cure that means stage 4 is no longer a death sentence.
Ironically it wasn’t the cancer that took dad in the end, and as hard as it was to lose him suddenly, I am forever grateful I didn’t have to watch him suffer to draw breath, that was always my greatest fear for him and for our family. Stage 4 lung cancer, coupled with COPD was brutal, but he never gave up fighting. If you knew my dad, you know how much he loved a chat- to anyone, about anything and everything, a trait I collected from him and my mother! He will always be the greatest dad anyone could have, and I’m grateful he was mine.
So please donate and help us fight in a different way, to help find cures, treatments and fund trials.
