Story
Update: as well as Wayne and I running 106km on May 2nd - we’ve decided to have a crack at the Three Peaks on / around June 28th
On December 1st, 2024, I stared at a tumour on the screen, a big, fat, ugly mass. My tumour in my bowel.
“SH!T,” — I’ve got cancer.
From that moment, life changed. I documented it all — the surgery, the brutal chemo, the Aperol Shitz (yes, it’s a thing), the steroids, the sleepless nights, and the quiet battles that don’t make it into hospital leaflets.
I turned that chaos into a book: 📖 “SH!T – I’ve Got Bowel Cancer”
It’s messy, honest, hopefully helpful — and it kept me sane.
Now, I’m doing something equally ridiculous:
Running over 100km around the Isle of Wight in May of 2026.
Not because I’m cured.
Not because I like pain - or training.
But because I’m still here, and because people like Bowel Cancer UK need our support more than ever.
The legend that is Wayne is crazy enough to join me, my mate, my motivator, a supporter through treatment and a fellow Red.
Together, we are the John Barnes Raps team.
We’re doing this together for:
• Everyone who is going through it
• Every mate holding someone up - thanks, Wayne!
• Every family that’s had to whisper the word “cancer” at the dinner table
• And for every bloody brilliant NHS worker who treated me with skill and soul
Please chip in. Every donation goes to Bowel Cancer UK, which is working hard to make sure more of us get to ring the bell, lace up our trainers, and keep going.
This isn’t just a race. It’s a comeback - as Rocky said, it's not how hard you get hit, it's how hard you get hit and rebound to move forward.
And that's what we will do, one step at a time.
With each other and your donations, we'll never run alone.
