Story
For ages I have wanted to give something back to BCH who have done and continue to do so much for my beautiful niece Bella. One day me and my mate Jake where chatting about getting into running and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to raise some funds for a great charity.
For those of you that don't know about Bella she is a 2 and half year old with a very complex medical background! She was born with a complex heart condition and DiGeorge Syndrome. She was transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital at 1 day old ready to undergo her first open heart surgery which she had a 8 days old. She had a rough ride and was cared for my the Intensive Care team for 3 weeks and Ward 11 for a further 2 weeks. After her first open heart surgery she had a stable couple of months but at 5 months old she was readmitted to the children’s hospital and that’s where her families world got turned upside down. She ended up spending many months in hospital and underwent further open heart surgery. Whilst she was inpatient for 7 months she got diagnosed with many other medical conditions and suffered from a respiratory arrest. Fortunately the incredible team at BCH managed to save her life. After 7 months inpatient she got discharged home, back with her family. She was discharged with her feeding tube, central and oxygen. Since being home she has grown bigger and stronger as is currently she most stable she has ever been. She goes back to BCH regularly for appointments with her different specialists. We are forever grateful for everything that BCH have done for Bella, without them, Bella wouldn’t be here now!
