Story

The Hyrox Challenge: Turning Grief into Grit

I am lacing up and pushing my limits in the Hyrox competition to honor the five irreplaceable people cancer took from me: my Grandma Damiana, uncles Rene and Bayani, and cousins Jerry and Aldrin.

Each of these names represents a world of love, laughter, and irreplaceable moments. Losing them has left a profound hole in our family's heart—a heartache that is shared by too many families around the world.

I was just 13 years old when I lost my grandmother, and the memory of that night is burned into my mind. I was right beside her when the nurses woke me, telling me they needed to revive her. The moment I had to call my parents to deliver the devastating news—that sound, that feeling, that burden of breaking a family's heart—it's something you never forget.

That single moment left a scar. I know firsthand the emotional trauma cancer inflicts, not just in the loss, but in the unimaginable lifetime burden of carrying those final, painful memories.

I don't want any other child, any other family, to stand in that hospital room, facing that desperate choice, or making that heartbreaking phone call.

This fundraising effort is my way of fighting back against the disease that forced a 13-year-old to deliver bad news. It’s my commitment to honor my Grandma Damiana, my uncles Rene and Bayani, and my cousins Jerry and Aldrin, by ensuring that the resources are available to spare others that unforgettable pain

Please help me turn this deeply personal memory into a force for change. Your contribution helps us protect families from carrying this same heavy burden, allowing them to make memories full of joy, not grief.

Please help us turn our enduring love for them into a powerful legacy of hope. Every contribution honors their memory and brings us one step closer to conquering this disease.

Thank you for remembering them with us. v
