Calgary Humane Society: Dog Jog, a walk or jog to end animal cruelty · 3 June 2023 ·

Calgary Humane Society's annual Dog Jog, a walk or jog to help end animal cruelty, helps raise crucial funding to support life-saving programs focused on education, protection, rehabilitation and ultimately, a new beginning for animals in need.

Story

In February, our Lexus of Royal Oak team was invited to tour the Calgary Humane Society’s facilty. It was there that we learned how many animals are abused, neglected, and are in dire need of people who will care and love them. There are currently 200 dogs in Calgary alone who are on the waitlist for the Calgary Humane Society. That‘s 200 dogs needing the safe space that the Calgary Humane Society provides.

After we were shown the vetrinary clinic on our tour where animals receive expert care, our team was able to meet some of the dogs up for adoption. It was there that our Marketing Manager, Julia, her fiance, and her brother, Sales & Finance Manager Alex, fell in love with two rescue dogs, who happened to be kenneled right beside each other. Julia and Alex promptly adopted the two dogs, Luna and Rosie, and they continue to be the best companions they could have asked for.

Two year old Luna, Alex’s dog, was living in homelessness when she was reported to a peace officer and brought into the Humane Society. When he first sat in the kennel with her, it took Luna half an hour to approach him as her experiences in homelessness left her guarded and untrusting. Rosie, formerly Lilth, was abandoned at under 6 months old.

We‘re proud to say that Luna and Rosie are living happy lives and receiving the care and love they always deserved. They’re best friends and we swear they’re kindred spirits and remember each other from the Humane Society. Because of the Calgary Humane Society, giving rescue dogs the compassion and love they need, dogs are able to find their forever families.

This is why we are participating in the Dog Jog. We want dogs like Rosie and Luna have a chance to live full and happy lives. A right we believe all dogs should have. The amazing, kind, and compassionate workers at the Calgary Humane Society need donors and supporters like us to continue their mission to end animal cruelty.

As a dog-friendly dealership whose mascot is rescue, Lexi, and as long-time supporters of the Calgary Humane Society, our Lexus of Royal Oak team are proud sponsors of the Dog Jog and will be attending it with our own pups! Luna and Rosie are excited to see the lovely people at the Calgary Humane Society who cared for them so well at the Dog Jog and can’t wait to see you there.
