Raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support

The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

Last year, Scott took part in the Loch Ness Etape as part of a team where they raised over £13,000 for Macmillan after friends he knew lost their lives to cancer. Since then, we've all known others who have been affected by cancer, all in different ways.

This year, we all set ourselves the challenge of swimming the length of Loch Ness as a relay and not only that, attempting to beat the current record, which stands at 10hrs 32 mins and 7 seconds.

Scott had the idea that given he cycled Loch Ness the year before, why not raise money again for MacMillan by swimming it. Even if we don't break the record, our attempt won't have been in vain.

While the 4 of us, Owen, Jen, Rebecca and Scott are all good swimmers and have been doing it for years, this swim is not without its challenges. There's the cold for a start (and no, wetsuits are not allowed). As of writing, water temperatures are around 10 degrees, so training is also a challenge. And then of course, there's Nessie, but we won't think too much about that. We'll be providing regular updates as training continues.
