Raising money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably)

For Roses 2026, Lancaster University is joining the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) in their movement against suicide, the leading cause of death for 125 people every week and the single biggest killer of young people in the UK.

Story

Suicide is the leading cause of death for 15-39 year olds in the UK. That’s not a distant statistic. That’s our generation. That could be someone sitting next to me in a seminar, training beside me, or making pasta with me at midnight. Behind every number is a person.

So this year, we’re helping to make Roses stand for something bigger than rivalry.

During the Roses Bootcamp - Court Sprint / Alcohol Ban Challenge, each of our team members will run one court sprint for every 10p donated to their respective fundraising page. To put it into perspective, each £10 donation will send someone sprinting up and down the squash court for about six minutes! Any donations made to the general team fundraising page will result in the court sprints being distributed evenly to all our team players in their final fitness session before Roses!

In addition to this, our Roses bootcamp teams will be on an 18-day alcohol ban, representing the 18 lives that are taken by suicide each day here in the UK.

Your support can make a real difference. Together, we can raise awareness and funds to help those struggling with mental health challenges. Please join us in this challenge by donating today—our team target is £500—and help turn every sprint into hope and change.
