Raising money for The British Red Cross Society and St Joseph's Hospice Hackney

Story

The Bow Geezers are a social group of elderly men in East London. Every year we do a sponsored walk to raise money for charity. This year, because so many of us are or have been keen bowlers, instead we’ve decided to hold a bowls marathon in partnership with Victoria Park Bowls Club. We’re raising money for St Joseph’s Hospice and the British Red Cross.

It’s midsummer and our aim is to keep playing bowls all day long from 8am to 8pm.

You can join and play for 20 minutes (or more if you like) at any point in the day. If you’ve never played lawn bowls before, this is a great chance to get started! To choose a time slot and take part, go to https://www.victoriaparkbowlsclub.org.uk/charity-marathon

Our target is £1,000. You can support us here.

St Joseph’s Hospice opened in Hackney in 1905, and we’ve been there for people and families across East London ever since.

Each year, we care for around 6,400 people affected by with life-limiting illness, supporting patients to live well to the very end, whilst looking after those closest to them.

To keep our vital services running, we need to raise around £16,000 every day. Every donation helps ensure we can continue to provide expert, compassionate care when it matters most.

Whether it’s in the UK or abroad in Gaza, Lebanon, Sudan and Ukraine, it feels like the British Red Cross has never been needed more.

Through conflict, flooding or food shortages and fires, families and communities are facing unimaginable hardship.

No matter how difficult or dangerous things get, the British Red Cross is ready to face these challenges, bringing comfort and aid when all hope and humanity feels lost.
