Story

In December 2018, Andrew was diagnosed with mylofibrosis, with the view that he could be monitored closely and take tablets. In February 2019, Andrew was told he needed a stem cell transplant and with huge thanks to Anthony Nolan and a lovely lady in France, Andrew’s stem cell transplant was planned for May. Despite complications prior to his transplant it took place at The Royal Brompton Hospital on 26 May by the amazing Royal Marsden nurses. Andrew had complications along the way post his transplant but was doing really well. He even managed a mini break at home for a few days. Andrew took his recovery in his stride was never in pain and just wanted to get on with it. Sadly on 2 August, due to further complications and infections, our hero, husband, dad, son, son in law, brother, brother in law, uncle, cousin and friend lost his fight after nearly 12 weeks of fighting with his loving family around him ❤ We watched the Marsden March from Andrew’s ward in 2019 and said we would march next time and therefore Team Walker will be walking in Andrew’s memory as well as family and friends who are continuing to have treatment and those who have sadly lost their fight. We would like to thank everyone at The Royal Marsden in Sutton and Chelsea (consultants, doctors, nurses, dieticians, HCA’s, catering, etc) who looked after Andrew and his family and therefore are raising valuable funds for this tremendous hospital. #teamwalker💙
