In memory of Megan Boyd

We are based in Brora and have the most unique and fascinating heritage in the Scottish Highlands, as we had the most northerly coal mine in the UK. Using the coal, we became the industrial capital of the north and have a rich and fascinating history, with whisky, tweed, salt & brick-making.

Story

Megan Boyd (1915–2001) was a world-renowned salmon fly-tyer who lived and worked in Brora, crafting exquisite flies by hand that were prized by anglers and royalty alike - including the now HRH King Charles.

Self-taught and fiercely independent, she tied thousands of flies in her tiny cottage, blending art, skill and devotion to her craft. Awarded the British Empire Medal, Megan became a quiet legend in the world of fishing. Now, we aim to honour her legacy with a striking 5m-high sculpture at the new Brora Heritage Centre — a fitting and lasting tribute to her life, craft, and enduring connection to Brora.
