Story
In May 2025, Thomas and I, alongside Trought and Rupert, have challenged ourselves to take on the Norfolk Coast Mighty Hike, walking a full marathon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Sadly we’ve had too many opportunities to be thankful to Macmillan. They supported Thomas’ father Graham through his terminal battle and my oldest friend Bella, who died last August. All four hikers have lost family members to cancer in recent years, including Trought’s uncle Paul. And, in my own recent experience of breast cancer, I was supported by a wonderful Macmillan therapist, helping me come to terms with the diagnosis and impact of surgery - which I was particularly grateful for during the isolated Covid months.
We’ve pledged to raise £1,000. All the money will go straight to Macmillan, helping people living with cancer with essential medical support, and practical and emotional help for them and their families.
Yes, this hike will be a lot of fun (we hope) but, more importantly, it’s an opportunity to remember those we loved who fought and lost, and support those whose struggle is yet to come.
