Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity fighting for a life unlimited, when everyone living with CF can look forward to a long, healthy life. www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk

Story

Our team at MotoNovo: Richard Irving, Mark Lewis, Craig Burns, Emily Birkinshaw, Rachel McTague, Rachel Oldroyd, Phil Jones, John Adams, Gareth Johns & Russell Hickman - are looking to support team member Craig in raising money for 3 charities.

Cystic Fibrosis Trust for his little boy and 10,000+ babies, children and adults, that are living with Cystic Fibrosis. Sheffield Children's Hospital for the ongoing care, treatment and facilities that Sheffield provide to Children across the region and to Ollie. Lymphoma action - for his Partner who has recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma, and 14,000 people that are diagnosed with Lymphoma each year.

In order to raise money for the 3 charities, we are looking to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks on the 16th June and are looking to raise around £3000 in total.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks route is 24 miles (38.6km), and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent. The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours. These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Cystic Fibrosis

Ollie is a bright and bubbly baby having just reached his 1st birthday. He's gorgeous - bright-eyed, has a huge smile and slowly bringing out a lovable personality. On the surface he is just like any normal 1 year-old with hobbies such as playing with everything he shouldn't be. However Ollie has already overcome hurdles that many children his age would not and will have to endure multiple hurdles as he grows up – he has grown up with cystic fibrosis (CF). Cystic fibrosis is a life limiting genetic condition that currently effects more than 10,600 people across the UK. It causes the body to produce thick sticky mucus, which can have a wide range of symptoms, but it mainly effects the lungs and digestive system with everyone with CF having their own variety and severity of symptoms. It requires punishing and relentless management, including lots of pills to help digest food and long hours of physiotherapy and a high fat diet to stay well. There is currently no cure for Cystic Fibrosis so it is about managing symptoms. Ollie has already spent a lot of time in Sheffield Children's hospital for visits, check-ups, infections and will do so until he is 16 before transferring to adult care. The money raised for Cystic Fibrosis helps to support the ongoing research to find a cure. There have been great advancements in treatment for people with Cystic Fibrosis which wouldn't have been possible without the ongoing funds needed to support the research needed.

Sheffield Children's Hospital

Having spent a lot of time already at the Children's Hospital with Ollie, it became clear very quickly about the absolutely fantastic facilities they have in supporting the brave Children from across the region and the nurses who care for them. The money raised through donations buys life-saving equipment, funds vital research and treatment for thousands of children from across the world and helps us create a comfortable, engaging environment for patients at Sheffield Children's. Children and young people visit Sheffield Children’s Hospital with every condition imaginable. Every day the doctors and nurses treat children with ground-breaking medical advancements, making the hospital one of the top children’s hospitals for paediatric care. The hospital is not a sad place, it is filled with smiles and laughter from all the patients. They are at the heart of everything they do, as they create a place for them to get better with everything they could possibly need. Sheffield Children’s Hospital is an extraordinary place which has always depended on charitable support; you can make a difference every day to the thousands of children and their families that visit. They are currently fundraising to help transform their Cancer and Leukaemia ward, making the facilities brighter and more modern for patients undergoing treatment.

Lymphoma Action

After what has been a challenging year of overcoming and living with the diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis with Ollie, followed by lockdowns and Shielding. The light at the end of the tunnel was here and we were so looking forward to coming out of lockdown, social distancing and returning to a new normal. But sadly, this isn't to be just yet as we have another big challenge to overcome.

My Partner, best friend, and the best mum to Ollie - Emily has been a rock for all of us. As a young, fit and healthy mum, and at just 26 years old - you don't expect to be diagnosed with Cancer. But for Emily and many others across the UK - Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that develops when white blood cells called lymphocytes grow out of control, and is common in younger age and over 60's. Lymphoma is the fifth most common type of cancer in the UK. It is nearly always treatable; most people live for many years after being diagnosed with lymphoma.

Every 27 minutes someone is diagnosed with lymphoma. With your help we can provide the vital information and support they need to cope with their diagnosis, treatment and living with lymphoma

How to donate

I have added in all the 3 charities separately so that you can decide where you would like to donate. I would like to be able to offer similar amounts to each charity though if possible.

Please click on the individual charities below to be take to their own page where you can donate - and a massive thank you from myself, the team here at MotoNovo and from the thousands of people that are directly/indirectly affected by Cystic Fibrosis, Lymphoma, and from Sheffield Children's hospital for your support.
