Raising money for Community Action Nepal

CAN is a UK based charity whose aim is to help some of the poorest people on the planet – the mountain people of Nepal. It helps local communities to raise their standard of living and strengthen indigenous, community-based cultures.

Story

On 4 July 2026, join riders from around the UK to attempt the gruelling 100 (ahem, 106)-mile Moel Siabod Sportif in beautiful Snowdonia!

This will be the 11th year of the Moel Siabod Sportif (MSS) to raise funds for the fantastic charity, Community Action Nepal. The event is a 'boutique' road cycling Sportif created by Ian Draisey (me) following the dreadful earthquake that hit Nepal in 2023. After hearing a talk from the renown mountaineer and patron of the Community Action Nepal charity - Doug Scott, at the Moel Siabod Cafe.

The talk inspired me to "do something". That something was to ride 100 miles in Snowdonia with a couple of friends. We asked for sponsors both to raise a few quid for CAN, and increase the publics awareness of the impact of this devastating earthquake.

Roll the clock forward and more that 120 people have ridden the MSS! We have raised more than £80,000 for Community Action Nepal. During the last 10 years the Sportif has seen riders from all over the world ride alongside local friends and relatives. Some people have ridden it once, and others come back every year, or as often as they can.

The event is held at Bach Wen Camping and Cottages where accommodation is availabe if riders want enjoy the rugged Welsh coastline of the Llyn Peninsula. Food is catered by the suberb rainbow eats who turn locally sourced produce into amazing nutritious meals for the riders.

The route has been developed over the the years by my good friend Peter Wrighton Smith, who knows Snowdonia's remote roads better than anyone else I know. Peter takes us off the beaten track to locations the riders will never forget.

The support crew are my family. Hannah my daughter supports with encouragement, snacks water and tools etc, as does Simon Dawson from Harlech Tri Club. If they can't keep you moving - nobody can!

To ride the Sportif, please message me at ian@iandraisey.co.uk

I ask the riders to open a Just Giving Page which links to the 'home' Just Giving Page for the MSS. I have learned over the years that every little amount matters. The MSS is about putting something back, meeting like minded people, and becoming part of something that simply isn't available in the mainstream Sportive circuit.Community Action Nepal is a UK based charity whose aim is to help some of the poorest people on the planet – the mountain people of Nepal. It helps local communities to raise their standard of living and strengthen indigenous, community-based cultures. We have a proven track record improving the standard of living in remote mountain communities, delivering anti-poverty initiatives and advancing health care in Nepal over the past 25 years.
