Story
Breaking news - WE DID IT!!! 23 hours and 16 minutes (11 hours and 26 minutes of walking). Roasting heat and stunning views on ben nevis, head torches and mist on scafell with bacon sandwiches at the bottom, then onto snowdon for late morning start and a very rainy finish. An amazing challenge - great driving from Debra, flapjack fuel from matthew and a guest appearance from Seamus on scafell. Thank you for your support everyone, amazing work!
Story:
Kathryn, Richard, Penny, Matthew and Debra are going to try to complete the UK 3 peaks in under 24 hours!!
This year marks 5 years since losing our beloved dad/brother/husband, Simon Newell. If you knew him, you'll know that he loved the mountains, a physical challenge and a touch of silliness. He would have been the first to take on the 3 peaks, and probably would have lead the way. We all miss him hugely, but we're taking on this challenge to come together in his memory.
The challenge is to climb the three highest peaks in the UK within 24 hours. This is over 11,000 feet of mountain, and not to mention the driving. We'll be starting in Scotland climbing Ben Nevis at 5pm in the evening, then driving through the night to take on Scafell with headtorches needed for the start. We're hoping to crack Scafell by early morning and then head to North Wales to finish Snowdon by the deadline, 5pm. Phew!
In doing this, we're raising money for War Child. It's a brilliant charity that supports children in areas affected by conflict, keeping them safe and giving them an education. Living through the pandemic in a country at peace, it's hard to imagine the added issues children and families in war zones face in day to day survival, and trying to create a brighter future.
Thank you so much for your support, and we'll keep you updated.
