The past year has been a roller coaster of emotions for my family. We’ve had a year full of memories and laughter, however sadly, Paul, my step dad, whom I’m incredibly close to, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Though the diagnosis is hard to take, Paul has taken it in his stride, like he does with everything.
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive brain condition that affects how a person moves and controls their body. There is no cure yet, however there are lots of places Paul, and our family can go for support, one of which is the charity, Parkinson’s UK. This charity supports people living with the condition, funds research and campaigns to improve care and find a cure. To our family and so many others, the funding for this charity is so important. Therefore, I’m setting myself a challenge to help raise as much money as possible for the charity.
In July, I am cycling from our family home in Norfolk to Tenby, Wales, where Paul grew up. The ride will also take me through Oxfordshire where Paul’s family live and where he has spent many years of his life.
This will be one hell of a challenge, cycling approximately 400 miles over 4 days, across the width of the UK is something that will not come easy to me. However every single mile will be so worthwhile knowing it’s for such an amazing cause. With the help of some friends and family along the way, and maybe even Paul himself subject to his health, I’m so excited, a little nervous and incredibly overwhelmed to be able to complete such a challenge.
Any donations would be hugely appreciated. For Paul, for my family, and for everyone affected by this disease 💙
